"Evergreen" is a vocal co-written by Jörgen Elofsson, Per Magnusson and David Kreuger, and originally recorded by Irish boy ring Westlife. The song appears on their anthology Earth of Our Own. In 2002, the song was chosen to be the winner's unmarried for the kickoff series of Pop Idol and was recorded past the 3 finalists: Will Young, Gareth Gates and Darius Danesh. During the final, the vocal was performed by both Young and Gates. Young went on to win the show, and released "Evergreen" equally a double A-side unmarried, along with "Anything Is Possible", which was also recorded by the final three and performed by the final 2. The song was later included on Young's debut anthology, From At present On (2002). Gates' version of the vocal was also released every bit a B-side to his unmarried, "Unchained Melody".

"Evergreen" went straight to the number one spot in the United kingdom of great britain and northern ireland Singles Chart and stayed at that place for 3 sequent weeks, before being knocked off the top spot by Gates' debut single, "Unchained Melody". Information technology was the all-time-selling vocal of 2002 and was too the fastest-selling debut in United kingdom chart history,[three] selling 403,027 copies on its day of release[four] and over 1.i million copies by the end of the calendar week.[5] [6] The song went on to sell over ane.79 million copies and in 2012 it appeared 14th in the official listing of the all-time best-selling singles in the UK.[7] Information technology was the biggest selling single of the 21st century in the Uk[8] until 2015, when it was overtaken by "Happy" past Pharrell Williams.[9]
